On the 23rd December 2022, Council Directive (EU) 2022/2523 of the 14th of December 2022 entered into force. The Directive’s aim is to ensure a global minimum level of taxation for multinational enterprise groups and large-scale domestic groups in the Union, commonly referred to as the Minimum Tax Directive.
The European Court of Justice (ECJ) has pronounced itself in a landmark judgement deeming public access to the beneficial owner registers for companies in the EU member states is no longer valid. This decision was arrived at based on articles 7 and 8 of the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union (the Charter). These articles deal with the respect for private and family life and the protection of personal data.
