Maria is one of the founding partners of the firm and leads the firm's Financial Services Practice Group and advises on all aspects of licensing of companies operating in the investment services and regulated financial services sectors.
Maria is also an intellectual property specialist and heads the Intellectual Property and eGaming & Technology Practice Groups of the firm. Maria is a registered European trademark attorney, an approved EPO European Patent Attorney and a member of the Institute of Financial Services Practitioners, the Society for Trusts & Estates Practitioners and the Malta Chamber of Advocates.
Maria has been acknowledged for her expertise and experience in legal matters related to investment services, banking and financial institutions. Through the firm's specialised practise group Maria and other team members have advised large international corporates on relocating their operations to Malta or opening a branch / agency herein.
Amongst Maria's interests are the application of traditional notions of Intellectual Property Law to the online world, as well as the application of brick and mortar notions of law to cyberspace. Maria has worked on projects involving the interrelation of technology law and investment law and finance, in the area of online payments, internet gaming, electronic money institutions and e-commerce
