Earlier this week, our firm attended the STEP Europe Conference 2025 at the Hilton Malta. Organized by the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP), the conference gathered leading private client professionals, legal advisors, trustees, and regulators from across Europe and beyond to explore key developments in cross-border planning, taxation, succession, and regulatory frameworks.

In Attendance

Our firm was proudly represented by Jean Philippe Chetcuti and Maria Chetcuti Cauchi, Managing Partners, Magdalena Velkovska, Head of Private Clients Tax, and Priscilla Mifsud Parker, Senior Partner. Their participation highlights our dedication to staying at the forefront of international private client and fiduciary services.

Conference Highlights

The conference addressed a broad spectrum of current and emerging issues in the private wealth sector. Key topics included:

• Cross-border tax and succession planning in a dynamic regulatory environment

• The evolving landscape of family governance and next-generation wealth transition

• The growing importance of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) factors in estate planning

Delegates also discussed global transparency initiatives such as the OECD Common Reporting Standard (CRS) and the EU’s DAC7 directive, trustee risk management strategies, and comparative jurisdictional developments across civil and common law systems. Malta's role in European wealth structuring and estate planning was prominently featured in dedicated sessions.

Networking and Insights

The event provided an excellent opportunity for our representatives to engage with peers, regulators, and industry leaders, facilitating the exchange of insights and best practices. It reinforced the strategic importance of maintaining strong professional relationships within the international STEP network. Our participation supports our ongoing efforts to stay updated on the latest legal and regulatory changes while promoting Malta as a reputable and forward-looking jurisdiction for private wealth services.

Conclusion

The STEP Europe Conference 2025 was a valuable experience for our team. The insights and connections gained will enhance our advisory work and contribute to better outcomes for our clients. We extend our gratitude to STEP for hosting a well-curated and highly relevant event and look forward to future participation.
