World Tech Legal's 2026 Annual Summit brings its international network to Malta for three days focused on technology law, global innovation and tech investment in an age of disruption. Hosted at the historic University of Malta Valletta Campus, the summit will combine interactive legal and business panels with perspectives from founders, investors, academics, incubators and innovation leaders. Alongside the working programme, delegates will have dedicated opportunities to build relationships across jurisdictions through private cultural experiences, historic venues and informal networking. The summit is open to World Tech Legal member firms and invited participants from the wider technology, investment and innovation ecosystem.

About the World Tech Legal Summit

The World Tech Legal Annual Summit Malta 2026 will bring the World Tech Legal network together in Valletta on 17 November 2026 for a full day of discussion, collaboration and relationship-building.

The summit theme, Global Innovation & Tech Investment in the Age of Disruption, reflects an environment in which artificial intelligence, emerging technologies, changing investment models, evolving regulation and geopolitical uncertainty are reshaping how innovative businesses grow across borders.

The programme is intended to create meaningful interaction between legal practitioners and the wider innovation ecosystem. World Tech Legal member firms will be joined by selected founders, investors, academics, incubators and innovation leaders, bringing practical market perspectives into discussions traditionally dominated by legal analysis.

A central objective is to encourage members to participate rather than simply attend. Interactive panels and moderated discussions will create opportunities for lawyers from different jurisdictions and disciplines to contribute their experience, compare approaches and identify areas for future collaboration.

Global Innovation in an Age of Disruption

Innovation increasingly moves faster than traditional legal and regulatory frameworks.

Technology companies may raise capital in one jurisdiction, develop intellectual property in another, employ globally distributed teams, establish holding structures elsewhere and enter multiple markets within a short period. Artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies are adding further complexity to questions of governance, accountability, intellectual property, data, investment and regulation.

Against this background, technology lawyers are increasingly required to understand the wider commercial and international context surrounding their legal advice.

The summit will consider the practical intersection between areas including:

  • technology regulation and emerging legal frameworks;
  • artificial intelligence and digital transformation;
  • innovation finance and technology investment;
  • corporate transactions and international expansion;
  • intellectual property and commercialisation;
  • tax and cross-border structuring;
  • founder and talent mobility;
  • governance, compliance and risk; and
  • collaboration between businesses, investors, universities and innovation ecosystems.

The emphasis throughout will be on the practical implications of disruption for internationally active businesses and the professionals advising them.

A copy of the PROGRAMME has been emailed to you with the relative invite. Contact Danielle Mercieca if you wish to participate in any panel.

An Interactive Summit Format

The Malta summit is designed to move beyond the conventional sequence of presentations followed by limited discussion.

Interactive Panels

Panel discussions will encourage participation from World Tech Legal members across jurisdictions. The objective is to compare practical experience, identify emerging trends and examine how different legal systems are responding to common technological and commercial challenges.

External Perspectives

Legal developments rarely occur in isolation from commercial reality. The summit will therefore incorporate perspectives from outside the legal profession, including entrepreneurs, investors, academics, incubators and innovation leaders.

Their participation is intended to introduce the commercial, investment and operational considerations that influence how technology businesses make decisions.

Cross-Border Collaboration

International technology matters frequently require coordinated advice across several jurisdictions and legal disciplines.

The summit creates an opportunity for member firms to deepen their understanding of one another’s capabilities, identify areas for collaboration and build stronger referral relationships across the network.

About World Tech Legal

World Tech Legal is an international network bringing together member firms with experience in technology-related legal work across multiple jurisdictions.

The annual summit provides members with an opportunity to exchange legal and commercial perspectives, strengthen cross-border professional relationships and engage with businesses and other participants in the technology and innovation ecosystem.

The Malta summit extends this approach by combining member-firm participation with perspectives from founders, investors, academics and innovation leaders.

Who Will Be Joining

World Tech Legal member firms will be joined by selected participants from the wider technology and innovation ecosystem.

The summit is intended to connect professionals who approach innovation from different perspectives, including:

  • technology and innovation lawyers;
  • corporate and M&A lawyers;
  • intellectual property practitioners;
  • tax and international structuring advisors;
  • employment and global mobility lawyers;
  • founders and technology executives;
  • venture capital and private investment professionals;
  • academics and researchers;
  • startup incubators and accelerators;
  • innovation agencies and organisations; and
  • other professionals advising internationally scaling businesses.

This breadth is deliberate. Many of the most significant issues affecting technology businesses now sit between conventional professional disciplines rather than neatly within them.

Why Malta for the Summit

Malta provides a particularly relevant setting for a discussion about technology, international business and innovation.

As an EU Member State with English as an official language, Malta combines access to European legal and regulatory frameworks with a highly international business environment. The jurisdiction has developed significant experience across technology-driven and regulated sectors and continues to position innovation, digitalisation and higher-value economic activity within its longer-term economic strategy.

Malta's scale also creates an environment in which policymakers, universities, professional services firms, entrepreneurs and businesses can operate within a relatively connected ecosystem.

For an international network examining the relationship between technology, law and investment, Malta therefore provides more than an attractive meeting point. It provides a practical setting in which many of the themes being discussed at the summit can be seen at work.

University of Malta Valletta Campus

The summit will take place at the University of Malta Valletta Campus, situated in the historic centre of Valletta.

The campus occupies the University's original premises and provides an exceptional setting for an international professional gathering. The summit will be hosted within the historic Aula Magna, bringing contemporary discussions on technology and innovation into one of Malta's most distinctive academic settings.

Valletta itself is a UNESCO World Heritage city and places delegates within walking distance of Malta's principal historic, cultural and institutional landmarks.
