A national conference on gaming marked the start of events commemorating the 10th year anniversary of the Lotteries and Gaming Authority, Malta’s gaming regulator. 

Chetcuti Cauchi’s i-Gaming team was present to discuss with other delegates converging technologies and the regulatory requirements needed to secure a stable operation by licensees and secure player protection. The delegates discussed particularly mobiles, tablets, cloud computing and payment solutions.

The conference, for which over 350 delegates were present, discussed LGA’s roots, the challenges that were faced over the past 10 years and the LGA’s strategy for the coming years.

Key industry stakeholders discussed the benefits of operating a gaming activity in Malta, which is the most prominent remote gaming destination in Europe. Delegates at the conference discussed also land-based gaming with a focus on the evolution of lotteries and the revolution of gaming technologies in casinos.

During the conference, the LGA presented its plans for the regulation of digital games with prize and casinos on cruise ships. These initiatives will continue to reaffirm the position of Malta as a gaming jurisdiction of choice for many operators and putting Malta ahead of the game for years to come. In fact, since 2004, almost 7000 new jobs were created in the field of online gaming and large investments have been attracted to Malta.

Speaking during the conference, Reuben Portanier, LGA’s Chief Executive Officer, reaffirmed that since its conception, the LGA has had the aim of regulating the gaming sector effectively, responsibly and diligently. Portanier expounding on how its regulatory framework stood the test of time, winning over and achieving international recognition.
