Giving back is not only about what we donate. It is also about being present, lending a hand and taking the time to understand the needs of those around us. Throughout 2025, colleagues at Chetcuti Cauchi stepped away from their day-to-day roles to do just that through our annual Gift of Time initiative.
Each team’s experience was different, but the purpose was shared: to contribute to our community through practical support and personal connection. Together, these experiences offered a reflection of our people and the values they bring to life, both inside and outside the office.
What is Gift of Time?
Gift of Time is Chetcuti Cauchi’s annual corporate social responsibility initiative, through which each department dedicates half a working day to supporting a local non-governmental organisation, charity or community group.
While donations can form part of the contribution, the initiative centres on giving our time. It creates an opportunity for colleagues to work together in a different setting, learn about the organisations supporting our communities and contribute directly to their ongoing work. In 2025, this took our teams across Malta, supporting causes ranging from animal welfare and environmental care to disability services and assistance for people facing hardship.
Supporting animal welfare at AAA Malta
Our Risk & Compliance and Marketing teams spent their Gift of Time at AAA Malta, supporting the sanctuary’s work caring for rescued and abandoned animals.
Alongside a donation from the firm and the collection of much-needed food supplies, colleagues rolled up their sleeves to process hundreds of bottles through the Beverage Container Refund Scheme (BCRS), helping raise funds for the organisation. They also spent time with the dogs and learned more about their stories and the challenges faced by the shelter.
The visit combined practical work with an opportunity to better understand the care, patience and resources that animal welfare organisations need every day.
Bringing festive warmth to Mater Dei’s Wonderland Ward
The Finance team brought creativity and care to the Wonderland Ward at Mater Dei Hospital. Working closely with the nurse in charge, colleagues decorated the ward with seven Christmas trees, colourful ornaments and seasonal props, helping create a more welcoming festive setting for young patients and their families.
Their contribution extended beyond Christmas decorations. Using their allocated budget, the team donated a washing machine for parents staying long-term, provided decorations for use throughout the year and supplied stickers, drawing books and coloured pencils for the children.
By combining festive touches with practical support, the team responded to needs identified by the ward while bringing a little comfort to families spending time in hospital.
Caring for Malta’s coastline
The Tax team took their Gift of Time outdoors, joining together for a beach clean-up along Malta’s coastline.
Equipped with gloves and bags, colleagues collected litter and cleared debris from the shore. The activity offered a practical way to care for a shared natural space while spending time together beyond the office.
It was also a reminder that environmental responsibility has a place in our everyday lives, and that looking after the places we enjoy is a shared commitment.
Learning and lending a hand at Dar Bjorn
At Dar Bjorn, our Immigration & Global Mobility and Corporate Trust teams combined practical support with an opportunity to learn more about the centre’s work.
Following a guided tour, colleagues met Bjorn and heard about his personal journey and the care provided at the facility. The teams then helped sort books and organise items in the centre’s library, supporting its ongoing fundraising activities.
The experience gave colleagues a closer understanding of the organisation and the importance of community support for people living with serious health challenges. It also showed how behind-the-scenes tasks can contribute to the work that organisations carry out every day.
Sharing time and creativity at Centru Tbexbix
Our Operations team visited Centru Tbexbix in Cospicua, a centre supporting children, families and older people within vulnerable communities.
Colleagues helped decorate the centre for Halloween, prepared Christmas hampers for older members of the community and spent time with the children and volunteers. Their contribution brought together creativity, practical preparation and conversation.
For the team, the visit was an opportunity to support the centre’s activities while connecting with the people who make it a welcoming community space.
Supporting Inspire’s work in Marsaskala
The HR team lent a hand at Inspire’s charity shop in Marsaskala, helping sort donated items that support fundraising for programmes for people with disabilities.
Alongside their hands-on contribution, the team made a monetary donation to support the organisation’s services. Their time at the shop offered an insight into the day-to-day work behind charity fundraising and the role that donated goods, volunteers and community support play in sustaining it.
Preparing meals and making connections at Soup Kitchen Malta
Our Legal team spent their Gift of Time at Soup Kitchen Malta, helping prepare and serve meals for people experiencing homelessness or hardship.
Beyond the practical tasks, colleagues spent time speaking with visitors and listening to their experiences. The visit was as much about offering a warm welcome and human connection as it was about serving food.
For those taking part, it brought perspective and a renewed appreciation of the importance of treating every person with care, dignity and attention.
Giving back, growing together
Looking back on Gift of Time 2025, what stands out is not one activity, but the willingness of colleagues across the firm to participate, learn and help. Whether sorting donations, clearing a beach, decorating a hospital ward or preparing meals, each team contributed in a way that responded to a different need.
These shared experiences also strengthened connections between colleagues. Working together outside our usual roles gave us opportunities to see one another differently and put our values into practice.
Gift of Time reflects something we value deeply at Chetcuti Cauchi: a culture shaped by people who care. Thank you to every colleague who took part, and to the organisations that welcomed our teams and shared their work with us.
