Blending the strategical geographical location together with its ever expanding shipping industry, Malta has grasped the opportunity to convert a redundant shipbuilding facility into an International Maritime Hub. The waterside land at Marsa, measuring approximately 175,000 square metres, will eventually be transformed into a stretch of land which will be featuring an array of services including the maintenance of yachts, super yachts, small to medium sea craft up to other types of vessels; the provision of maritime legal and arbitration services as well as the conducting of research and development in marine engineering and marine information technology.

As the Economy Minister well explained “… we could continue developing Malta as a centre of maritime excellence” which will in turn flourish our economic growth and the country’s competitiveness. This prospect will indisputably encourage international investors to contribute towards Malta’s great potential in providing services including financial and legal services. The inclusion of a Maritime School is likewise a desirable project by the Government but, which ultimately hinges on the input which interested private companies realizing the prospect intend to yield.
