Worldwide lottery in sales in 2011 have increased by 13% over 2010 as the industry continued to brush off the lingering effects of the global financial crisis.

The World Lottery Association has attributed this growth to a growth in the Asia-Pacific region that recorded an 18.9% increase, notably due to a continued rise in the popularity of lotteries in China.

Equally strong were the Latin American and the European markets, with the former registering a 15.7% increase in annual sales while the Europe saw a 10.7% increase in lottery sales.

Contrastingly, the aggregate increase in sales in North America added up to 6.2% when compared to 2010.

This reflects the increase in revenue that Malta gaming licence holders have witnessed in the past months affirming Malta’s position as a gaming hub.
