On the 8th of August 2016, The Prime Minister of Malta, Joseph Muscat and Malta Minister for Transport, Joe Mizzi announced that The Marina Di Valletta Consortium signed a 25-year concession agreement with the Government of Malta. The Consortium, made up of Azimut Benetti, Esprit Yachting and local entrepreneurs Arrigo Group of Hotels, Joinwell and Tal-Maghtab Construction, will see the development, operation and management of a new high-end, all-weather Malta marina catering for up to 274 berths at Sa Maison, Pieta` Malta. This will see the regeneration of a derelict area into a top-end Malta marina equipped with state-of-the-art amenities and offering bespoke services, whilst surpassing mandatory environmental standards in the field.  The project of this Malta marina is estimated to cost some €7.5 million and is expected to be concluded and fully operational for the coming season 2017.

The launching of this Malta marina project is a factual demonstration of the Government’s vision to create new sectors in Malta’s maritime industry and hence the Maltese economy - a project such as this upmarket marina concept is what is needed for Malta to up its game in the yachting industry. The Prime Minister expressed his views that once clients “berth on high-end facilities, they must find a high-end country – our job is to continue upgrading the country, keep it clean and provide the right environment”, he added.

The Government of Malta is committed to continue working with the private industry to provide better standards and does not shy away from partnering with the business sector, through an effective pro-business approach. This puts the minds of potential investors at rest, knowing that they will find full cooperation and support from the Government. Malta welcomes and opens its doors to local and foreign investors who see in Malta a good business opportunity -  naturally Malta is a great place to invest and an even better place to live in.
