Malta hosts first Tier III facility in the region

MITA, Malta’s Agency for Information Technology, has been certified as a Tier III facility. This certification makes the Agency the first data centre in the region to be certified as a Tier III Facility and one of the 33 data centres worldwide that has this certification.

The Data Centre Tier Classification is an industry standard that measures the level of sophistication of data centres. Based on four levels, Tier 1 is the lowest tier used to denote small-scale server rooms while Tier IV denotes facilities that may host mission critical computer systems. As a certified Tier III facility, Malta’s key agency for Information Technology has been certified as a leader in the region in terms of its ability to secure that each component in its facility can be maintained, replaced or upgraded without disrupting any service.

This classification echoes the increasing sophistication of the IT infrastructure in Malta. Aimed at continuing to ameliorate its IT infrastructure, plans are underway for the roll-out of a next generation broadband infrastructure that allows for ultra-fast broadband services across Malta and Gozo. This level of IT service ensures that Malta can continue to service the increasing number of industries that are setting up shop in Malta, notably in the advanced manufacturing, financial services, international education services and the gaming industry.
