YouTube checks Copyright System What Lawyers Think

YouTube has recently adopted a new ‘Checks’ system wherein there is now a possibility for users to inspect videos for potential breaches prior to uploading them to the widely used YouTube platform. This may be beneficial for both the creators, as it grants the opportunity to amend any issues; and for copyright holders, as some responsibility is weighed off them. However, the effectiveness of this new ‘Checks’ system may prove unreliable, as it is highly dependent upon the creators’ ability to recognise possible infringements.

It is a new frontier of a legal minefield yet to be navigated in terms of digitalised and online creators and platforms.
