March 2012 heralds Malta's signature of the European Space Agen

Malta has signed a collaboration agreement with the European Space Agency (ESA) getting observer status on the ESA Council and its related committees. This collaboration agreement comes as Malta continues to create idyllic conditions for the research base to grow attracting companies who establish themselves in Malta to take advantage of Malta’s advantageous legal framework and a highly-skilled workforce.

 
This agreement provides for the development of state-of-art research facilities, as well as new training and research opportunities for researchers in Malta. Researchers carrying out research in Malta will be in a position to benefit from increased access to European funds for research projects.
 
The Maltese Government has put Research and Development as one of the economy’s main pillars, providing increase access to funding to research and development, new start-ups and companies seeking to invest in high-value technologies.
 
Space represents an important research area for Europe and through space programmes that include Galileo, Europe is considered to be a world leader in this sector.
