A collaborative Memorandum of Understanding was entered betwen the Malta Lotteries and Gaming Authority  (LGA) and the International Olympic Committee’s International Sports Monitoring GmbH body (ISM) for the purpose of monitoring the betting markets for possible irregularities or insider betting during the Olympic Games. Both parties have entered into this MoU in an effort to help protect and maintain the integrity of the upcoming London Olympic Games this summer.

This MoU is aimed at greater cooperation in order to maintain and inhance integrity of the Olympic Games, whereby the LGA shall provide assistance, in collaboration with its licensed operators, to ensure the effective workings of the ISM and “deter gamblers with malicious intent”. The Authority said that this agreement shall ensure that the odds of achieving any unfair winnings will not be experienced in regulated markets, such as that regulated by the LGA.

Through this collaborative agreement, the LGA and its betting licensees shall team up in order to exchange betting-related and monitor betting activity connected with the London Olympic Games.

This MoU represents the LGA’s third deal in the past month specifically targeting sport integrity, following its signed agreements with FIFA’s Early Warning System and the European Sport Security Association. This agreement has now re-enforced the LGA’s commitment toward stronger collaboration on the integrity of sports.

The agreement was signed by the CEO of the LGA, Mr. Reuben Portanier and Mr. Detlev Zenglein from ISM on behalf of the International Olympic Committee.
