In March 2012, three memoranda of understanding were signed by Malta Enterprise with business organisations in Israel during a visit by a Maltese business delegation to Tel Aviv. The business organisations are the Federation of Israeli Chambers of Commerce, the Manufacturers Association of Israel and the Israel Export and International Cooperation Institute. The memoranda are intended to facilitate trade and investment, encourage economic cooperation and promote commercial exchanges between the business communities of the two states.

The business delegation was organised by Malta Enterprise.  Following a number of one-to-one meetings, the 21 local companies forming the delegation took part in a business forum with 50 Israeli companies. The Maltese companies, largely involved in financial and professional services, renewable energies, ICT, manufacturing, education, travel and tourism, and shipping and logistics, explored the potential of cooperation with their counterparts.

The main initiatives that arose include the organisation of business delegations and other networking events, the exchange of information on opportunities and trends to facilitate increased cooperation, sharing of facilities and resources, as well as the identification of specific opportunities with a view to enhancing investment and trade prospects between Israel and Malta.

Malta Enterprise also held meetings with the Office of the Chief Scientist of the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Labour of Israel and other institutions relating to SMEs to discuss international cooperation in industrial research and development programmes.
