MGA signs MOU image

Upholding its reputation as a regulator of integrity, the Malta Lotteries and Gaming Authority has signed a memorandum of understanding with the European Sports Security Association (ESSA), which is the industry monitoring group that works to keep wagering free from insider betting or bet-rigging and manipulation by acting as an early-warning system by providing regulators, such as the International Football Federation, the Union of European Football Associations and  the European Professional Football Leagues, the Football Association, with information on unusual betting patterns or irregularities.

Through the Memorandum of Understanding, the LGA will be assisting in reporting relationships in collaboration with its licensed operators in view of preventing ‘the manipulation of sports events and competitions’.

This Memorandum is part of the LGA’s plan to enter a series of agreements that address sports integrity in view of demonstrating that match-fixing through sports-betting is neither acceptable nor tolerated in Malta. This month, the LGA has also signed an agreement with the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) aimed at greater and closer cooperation to address the manipulation of sporting events and competitions.
