We have reported in previous posts the numerous occasions in which Malta and Qatar identified key areas for business collaboration and subsequently effected and capitalised on such collaboration.  In April of this year it was reported that the two States negotiated the direct investment by Qatargas in Malta’s largest energy producer and distributor to the tune of €1000 million.  This built earlier agreements aimed at strengthening the systemic stability of their respective financial institutions by facilitating the exchange of regulatory, technical, and surveillance information in banking, financial and insurance services sectors.

The Malta Chamber of Commerce, Enterprise, and Industry and the Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry announced that they would set up a Joint Business Council with the view to facilitate trade and economic co-operation between the two States and promote the industries and sectors which are prominent in either State.

The Malta Chamber of Commerce, Enterprise, and Industry has already established four such Business Councils, namely the Scandinavian Business Forum, the German Maltese Business Council, the Tunisian-Maltese Business Council and the Egyptian Business Council.
