A law named ‘The Public Domain Act’ has been unveiled yesterday, proposing a new legal regime to regulate public land. Through this legislative instrument, parliamentary approval will need to be acquired as a prerequisite for Government to be able to devolve land in the public domain. To date, the process how this is done has remained unregulated.

The new law will also seek to define what is understood by ‘land in the public domain’. It is proposed that the term covers any land  to which the public cannot be denied access. Examples include the coastline, countryside, valleys, cliffs, and woodlands.

The document is open for consultation of any interested parties.
