The Malta Stock Exchange (MSE) has launched the Capital Markets Strategic Plan during an event organised at the MSE's premises together with industry practioners. The Prime Minister as well as the Minister of Finance addressed such event and spoke about the importance of capital markets for the Maltese economy. The MSE Chairman, Mr. Joseph Portelli highlighted the drive which he together with the Board of Directors of the MSE, have in placing the MSE more prominently within the capital markets sphere. The Capital Markets Strategic Plan consists of 19 key initiatives and actions which the MSE intends to develop and grow. These include the listings of Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs), Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs) as well as the development of Malta's Islamic capital markets. Earlier on this year the MSE had launched the MSE Equity Sharia Index. Further initiatives include the drive to increase fund listings on the MSE as an alternative to other European platforms, as well as tax incentives both for primary listings as well as for the more recent addition of Prospects which allows small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) to raise finance through capital markets. The MSE has also announced and launched the Malta Stock Exchange Institute. The MSE Institute will provide an educational platform for moulding financial sector professionals. Chetcuti Cauchi Advocates shall be actively involved in assisting the MSE Institute by delivering courses during the course of 2017.
