Malta and The Bahamas signed a Tax Information Exchange Agreement (TIEA) at the Malta High Commission in London on the 18th January 2012. The TIEA will enable exchange of information on tax matters between the two states. It demonstrates good practice in the global financial sector and goodwill that exists between Malta and The Bahamas.

Malta and the Commonwealth of the Bahamas are both members of the OECD Global Forum on Transparency and Exchange of Information. The TIEA included all standard means to ensure that due process was followed in tax information requests to both countries respectively, including, for example, provisions to protect confidentiality of information. The TIEA adheres to public policy considerations and provisions related to protecting legal privilege.
