On the 28th July 2011, the Maltese and Israeli Foreign Ministers signed a Double Taxation Agreement in Jerusalem to provide a framework for business and investment opportunities between the two states. To date, 68 Maltese companies have an Israeli shareholding. Imports from Israel in 2010 amounted to €8.3 million, mainly consisting of mineral fuels. Exports, mostly organic chemicals, cereals and pharmaceuticals, reached €3.8 million, a 58% increase over 2009.

In 2009 a new Maltese Embassy was officially inaugurated in Tel Aviv, another step in the Government’s drive towards enhanced foreign relations.
