Statistics for 2011 indicate an increasing trend in property acquisitions by foreigners in Malta. According to the figures, Malta has registered a 12% increase in the number of property purchases acquired in Malta and Gozo adding up to a global value of €185 million representing a 20% increase over the corresponding 2010 and 2009 figures and indicative that more foreigners are seeking to acquire high market property.

This news indicates a reversal in a three-year downturn experienced by the market in the wake of the international financial crisis.

The increase in the property purchases has been attributed to the fiscal incentives that are leading to an increasing number of individuals relocating personal and business interests in Malta. This is possible within a legal framework that grants EU and non-EU citizens the possibility of acquiring property in Malta.
