The registration process of aircraft in Malta is quite simple and straightforward. Only a few documents are required, in order to start the process. These include the following:
- Official Application Form;
- Bill of Sale;
- If the aircraft is leased, then the lease agreement has to accompany the other documents;
- If the aircraft was registered under a different jurisdiction then a de-registration certificate is also required;
- If there are any mortgages, these have to be registered as well.
The aircraft may be registered as a commercial plane or for private purposes. For an aircraft to be registered it has to be owned by one or more of the following persons:
- The Government of Malta;
- Nationals of any European Economic Area;
- Undertakings formed in accordance with the law of an European Economic Area State and having their registered office, central administration or principal place of business within the European Economic Area;
- In the case of aircraft to be used for the purpose other than public transport or aerial work, persons in favour of whom a permit of residence has been issued.
