The Malta Institute of Accountants (MIA) is the voice of the accountancy profession in Malta providing professional guidance, technical support and continuing professional education to over 2,000 accountants.

The Main functions of the institution are divided into three sectors, administrative, technical and educational. The administrative sections covers the communications and public relations, sending emails to member, writing article, hosting conferences and mainlining a close relationship with the accountancy board. In the educational sector MIA joint the examination scheme though ACCA, a well recognized qualification on the Maltese Islands.

 

Members of The MIA consist of three types, namely associates, full members and fellows, and all members have equal rights. The professionalism of the institute only selects members that have obtained acceptable, supervised, practical experience for a period of at least 3 years and obtained other specified competences. Members form an important part of the institute since the institute’s supreme powers lie with the Annual General Meeting to which all members are invited annual to elect seven members to council. 
 
The institute benefits from international affiliations with both the international Federation of Accounts and the Federation des Experts Comptables Europeens (FEE). The institute has also launched and initiative jointly with the institute of Charted Accounts in England and Wales (ICAEW) for its members, and ultimately their customers, to obtain access to the online premium resources for the ICAEW faculties.
